The Marape-Rosso Government has released a K30.9 billion National Budget for 2026, with a strong focus on security, essential services and economic growth.

Treasurer Ian Ling-Stuckey presented the Budget during the lockup at Parliament today.

The Budget delivers major increases for law and justice, health, education and infrastructure. Funding for the law and justice sector rises to K2.498 billion, supporting Government plans to build a stronger police force and improve frontline operations. Police fuel, defence catering and court case expenses receive a 42% boost.

Infrastructure investment also increases, with the capital budget rising to K10.866 billion, including K7.697 billion for major road and development projects under the PNG Connect program.

Ling-Stuckey said the Government is repairing the economy through careful spending. “Revenues are growing faster than expenditures, and this is responsible budget repair,” he said. The deficit is expected to fall to 1.1% of GDP, putting PNG closer to a surplus by 2027.

Meanwhile, the Marape-Rosso government Budget will support long-term stability as agencies prepare to implement large projects. The Department of Treasury will release a series of follow-up briefs for public awareness.
