Judicial Legal Services Commission Reappoints, Extends Terms for Judges and Acting Judges

Minister for Justice and Attorney General, and  Chairman of Judicial Legal Services Commission (JLSC) Hon. Pila Niningi.

Minister for Justice and Attorney General, and  Chairman of the  Judicial Legal Services Commission (JLSC) Hon. Pila Niningi, today announced the reappointment and the extension of terms of six confirmed Judges and two acting Judges for the National and Supreme Courts.

While making this announcement,  Attorney General, Niningi congratulated the Judges who were reappointed during a special JLSC meeting recently.

“On behalf of the people of Papua New Guinea, I would like to congratulate and thank you for the services rendered to the country. Well done to you all,” he said.

Minister Niningi furthermore said the Judicial and Legal Services Commission (JLSC) appreciates the Judges’ services and have extended their terms to continue presiding as Judges of the National and Supreme Courts, signing all their instruments of reappointment this week.

The reappointed Judges of the National and Supreme Courts of Papua New Guinea are

  • Sir Kina Bona, reappointed for a term of two years;
  • Teresa Berrigan, reappointed for a three year term;
  • Lawrence Kangwia, reappointed for a term of 10 years;
  • Peter Chanel Toliken, reappointed for a term of 10 years;
  • Iova Geita, reappointed for a three year term;
  • Derek Richard Hartshorn, reappointed for three years.

The acting appointments for the Judges of the National Court of Papua New Guinea are Pauline Bre and Anthony Kupmain who were given an extension for 12 months.

Attorney General Niningi thanked the Judges for rendering their services to the country.
