The Department of National Planning and Monitoring (DNPM) recently held a pivotal Inter-Government Agency Meeting, aimed at strengthening coordination and cultivate partnerships across all levels of government.
“It further marks a crucial step towards maximizing the effectiveness of national development initiatives in Papua New Guinea,” said Deputy Secretary of Policy and Planning Wing, Mr Michael Kumung.
Mr Kumung further emphasised, the meeting also assessed vital objectives essential for advancing Papua New Guinea’s development agenda.
“Collaboration is key to achieving our shared goals,” asserted Mr. Kumung, stating “Aid effectiveness means that development partners must engage actively with the recipient country, ensuring that their support is aligned with our development priorities.”
Among the primary discussion points were the enhancement of sustainable and transparent development cooperation, the clear delineation of roles for the DNPM and the Development Cooperation Management Division (DCMD), and a critical update on the newly formulated Development Cooperation Policy (DCP) for 2024-2030.
The meeting also served as a platform to tackle persistent issues faced by various Government of Papua New Guinea (GoPNG) agencies, with consensus sought on actionable solutions.
“We’ve outlined our plan through the Medium Term Development Plan IV (MTDP 2023-2027), with programs in diverse sectors,” Mr. Kumung explained.
“It is vital that we identify avenues for development partners to contribute meaningfully.”
The IGAM is working on creating a unified agenda for the upcoming Joint Technical Working Group on Development Effectiveness meeting as preparations for the High-Level Forum continue.
Mr Kumung said DNPM is instrumental in guiding Papua New Guinea’s aid program, ensuring development initiatives align with national strategic goals and support sustainable growth.
The successful coordination of these collaborative efforts is imperative for maximising the impact of development resources and achieving the nation’s ambitious goals.
Meantime Mr. Kumung emphasized the importance of working together to make the development agenda a reality and ensure a prosperous future for all Papua New Guineans.
