Hon. Timothy Masiu, Member for South Bougainville, today announced the successful convening of the South Bougainville District Development Authority (DDA) Board’s first virtual meeting, which he chaired via Zoom from Port Moresby on Wednesday 27 August.
Board members participated remotely from Buin Leva Town, South Bougainville, marking a significant step toward more inclusive and digitally enabled governance.
Acknowledging current mobility constraints, Masiu highlighted the value of digital tools such as video conferencing in maintaining inclusive and effective leadership.
“I am very satisfied with the outcome of our online Zoom meeting,” he said. “We plan to enhance future sessions by adopting more robust platforms such as Microsoft 365 or BoardPro to streamline agenda management and document handling.”
He described the virtual meeting as a milestone for the South Bougainville DDA, aligning with the Government’s Medium-Term Development Plan IV goal of connecting all districts, and supporting the Digital Government Plan 2023–2027 priority on Government-to-Government (G2G) service delivery.
Hon. Masiu encouraged other Members of Parliament to equip their DDAs with video conferencing capabilities, citing benefits in cost efficiency, transparency, and improved service delivery.
“Digital tools are no longer optional—they’re essential for responsive governance.”
“Amongst important agendas discussed was the 50th Independence Anniversary celebrations and how the funding of K1 million will be used so everyone from the villages, wards and Community Governments can participate meaningfully.”
