In a first-of-its-kind PNG police staged the force’s best to kick off independence celebrations today at Ela Beach, Port Moresby.

The Royal Papua New Guinea Constabulary (RPNGC) staged a special parade and exhibition and invited families to come along.

Chief Inspector and Executive Officer to Deputy Commissioner Administrator David Terry from RPNGC said today’s event showcases the force’s best.

“It’s an exciting day today. It’s a good time for families to come down to Ela Beach and take a glimpse of what the Constabulary can offer as part of the 50th anniversary celebrations,” Terry said.

The parade featured officers from the NCD Metro, Special Services Division (SSD), Mobile Squad, Water Police, and cadets from the National Centre of Excellence Bomana.

Spectators were treated to drills, K9 demonstrations, and displays by the Water Police and the force’s water cannon trucks.

“This is all for public amusement and to show what our members can do,” said Terry.

While police bands from across the Pacific have started arriving in Port Moresby, they will join local bands for a major musical Tattoo at the Sir Hubert Murray Stadium on Tuesday, July 22.

“From my recollection, this is the first of its kind to have police bands from across the Pacific performing here together with our police band,” he said.

Today’s parade is the first in a series of events leading up to the golden jubilee, giving residents and families a chance to celebrate alongside their police force.
