MAGARIDA, CENTRAL PROVINCE – A major infrastructure milestone was reached today with the official opening of the Magi Highway Missing Link Road, connecting Central and Milne Bay Provinces.

The 250-kilometre road marks the realization of a vision more than 50 years in the making, paving the way for economic transformation and connectivity for thousands of Papua New Guineans.

Minister for Works and Highways and Member for Telefomin, Hon. Solan Mirisim, MP, officiated at the launch, highlighting the road’s significance as a corridor of opportunity for communities in Abau and Alotau Districts.

“Today, we are not simply opening a road. We are unlocking a new chapter of opportunity for our people. We are laying the foundation for economic empowerment, inclusive growth, and sustainable development,” Minister Mirisim stated.

The K100 million investment in this section of the highway is part of the Connect PNG Program, a national infrastructure initiative spearheaded by the Marape-Rosso Government.

Under this program, an additional K250 million has been allocated for ongoing developments along the Magi Highway, with total running contracts extending from Bautama to Alotau.
