Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT), is set to participate in the 2nd Pacific ICT Ministers Dialogue (PICTMD) to be held in Suva, Fiji on 08 August 2025.

This regional Dialogue, first initiated and led by Papua New Guinea in 2023, brings together ICT Ministers and senior officials from across the Pacific to collectively advance digital development priorities aligned to the 2050 Strategy for the Blue Pacific Continent.

At its inaugural meeting, the Dialogue produced the landmark Lagatoi Declaration, which outlines bold, coordinated actions across the region to accelerate digital inclusion, enhance connectivity, strengthen cybersecurity, and pursue policy harmonization. These areas remain central to the Dialogue’s ongoing agenda.

Three Strategic Pillars Drive the Dialogue:

  1. A Unified Pacific Voice on Global Digital Issues
  2. Regional Collaboration for Tailored ICT Solutions
  3. Advocacy for a Stronger ITU Presence in the Pacific

The Dialogue has since grown into a strategic platform for aligning regional digital efforts and has attracted the participation of up to 12 Pacific Island nations.

Key regional priorities currently pursued under the Dialogue include:

  • Digital Transformation and Connectivity
  • Capacity Building and Human Resource Development
  • Cybersecurity Strengthening
  • ICT Policy Harmonization
  • Strategic Partnerships and Regional Collaboration

This week in Suva, ICT Ministers, regional organizations, technical agencies, and key stakeholders will gather to:

  • Share national progress and regional coordination efforts
  • Review and endorse the Governance Framework
  • Finalize and adopt the Pacific ICT and Digital Transformation Strategic Action Plan
  • Issue the 2nd Pacific ICT Ministerial Dialogue Communiqué

Papua New Guinea currently serves as Chair of the Dialogue and hosts the Interim Secretariat, which has coordinated the regional initiative since its inception. As part of the transitional arrangements, the secretariat will be absorbed within the Pacific Island Forum structure after the Dialogue, ensuring continuity and long-term sustainability of the platform.

The Dialogue will be preceded by the Senior Officials Meeting on 07 August 2025, also in Suva.
