Pacific leaders gathered in Port Moresby this week for the 2026 Melanesian Ocean Summit.
Over four days, leaders, scientists, government agencies and business groups discussed
climate change, illegal fishing, marine pollution and the future of Pacific waters.
One of the major outcomes of the summit was the signing of the MOCOR Declaration and
Framework, a regional plan aimed at strengthening ocean protection and supporting
coastal communities across Melanesia.
Pacific leaders, government officials, scientists, conservation groups and business
representatives gathered at APEC Haus in Port Moresby from May 11 to 14 for the 2026
Melanesian Ocean Summit.
