His Holiness Pope Francis arrived at Jacksons International Airport at 7:09 PM aboard a Garuda Indonesia Charter flight. The arrival marked the beginning of a highly anticipated visit, with thousands of Catholics and Christians from various denominations gathering to welcome the Pope to Port Moresby.

As the plane touched down, the city, often regarded as “one of the most dangerous cities in the world” was filled with songs of worship and joyous cheers that reverberated across the capital. The overwhelming show of unity and faith turned the usually busy airport into a hub of celebration, as people lined the streets and crowded the terminals to witness the arrival of the Holy Father.

Pope Francis was received at the APEC Terminal by Deputy Prime Minister Hon. John Rosso, accompanied by a delegation of state ministers. Bishops from all dioceses across Papua New Guinea were present to greet the Pope, led by Archbishop John Cardinal Ribat. The presence of top political and religious leaders reflected the significance of this historic visit, as the nation prepared to host the Pontiff for the first time.

The Pope’s visit, which will run from September 6th to 9th, includes travel to Vanimo, where he is expected to engage with local communities, deliver key addresses, and share messages of peace and unity. For many in PNG, the arrival of Pope Francis represents a rare and deeply spiritual moment, bringing hope and international attention to the country.

During his stay, the Holy Father is anticipated to address issues of faith, reconciliation, and social justice, leaving a lasting impact on a nation where Christianity holds a central place in the hearts of many.
