Prime Minister Hon. James Marape has confirmed a Cabinet realignment, announcing new portfolios for three MPs sworn in yesterday as part of what he described as a decisive “year of reset” for Papua New Guinea.

At a media conference this morning at Melanesia Haus in Waigani, PM Marape named Kompiam-Ambum MP Sir John Pundari as the new Minister for Police (Internal Security). Menyamya MP Solen Loifa has been appointed Minister for Mining, while Tewai-Siassi MP Dr Kobby Bomareo returns to the Housing and Urbanisation Ministry.

Peter Tsiamalili Jnr has been shifted to the Works Ministry, filling the vacancy left by the passing of Telefomin MP Solan Mirisim.

The Prime Minister said the appointments balanced coalition politics while strengthening government delivery in 2026.

“They are esteemed men, leaders in their own right and on behalf of our government we congratulate the three and want to commend them for their patience and commitment to making our country a better place,” Marape said.

Marape highlighted Pundari’s long parliamentary service since 1992, describing him as “not new to the business of being in Cabinet.”

He also underscored Loifa’s elevation as part of a deliberate effort to prepare younger leaders for future national leadership.

The Prime Minister acknowledged the role of Our Party, now the second-largest bloc in the coalition, in supporting reforms.

He also signaled further reshuffles may follow, urging ministers to prepare reports on their 2025 performance.

“This is a year of reset and while we may not achieve all in 2026, a substantial pendulum of progress must be done,” he said.
